Sciatica
|
Sciatica is a symptom of something wrong. It feels like some sort of leg pain, but without leg injury. The pain can range between a dull occasional or constant ache to a sudden shooting pain with certain movements. It is caused by some sort of dysfunction of the sciatic nerve: a very long thick nerve which runs from your lower back down each leg to the foot (shown in yellow in the diagram). This dysfunction can be compression of the nerve due to swelling or inflammation from a lower back disturbance, which may or may not be structural in nature. In most cases, by making gentle adjustments to your lower back, last relief can result. Once the pain has gone and full strength returned to the leg, maintenance visits, often just once every six months, may be all you need. A typical plan for a first occurrence is two visits in the first week, then weekly for about six weeks, then gradually working towards bi-yearly visits. |
